What do I need to remember when I go to sell an item in a booth or online?

Now that you have made the decision to put up some items to sell, you need to think about where you are going to sell them.  Is it going to be in a booth or is it going to be online on a site like eBay or Etsy?

You will need to remember that there are going to be fees somehow tied to that sale.  If you sell it in a booth, you could potentially pay a small commission on the sale to the operators of the shop the booth is in, and you will also have rent to worry about.  If you sell the item online, then you will pay fees to the selling site that the item sold on.  I have seen the fees range from 4% all the way up to 13%.  This depends on what site you sold it on and the actual category that it was in as well.

There will also be a small listing fee to sell online as well, I have seen this be anywhere from 20 cents to 30 cents to list the item (again, this depends on the site).

Another thing to remember is that when you sell online, you will notice that your item will only be listed for a certain amount of time.  I have seen listings run from three days to a week if you decide to have it as an auction style listing (where the buyer bids on the item) to one to four months if you decide to make it a fixed price listing.

Good lighting is also important to selling in a booth or online, and it really applies to if you can see it or not.  It affects selling online in the photography with very dark photos.  In a booth, if you don’t have enough light, you may not be able to see that it is really there.

This is a few of the things to remember when you go to sell an item.  What have you run across when you sell an item?
